How long do I have to study to become and eye surgeon?

February 12th, 2010 by admin

I heard some people said about 11 years… but is there anyone who actually IS an eye surgeon or at least knows how long it will take? . By the way, I am in high school but I’m not including it- just the years in university and stuff.

It’s a long, long road to do almost anything in the medical field. In the United States you have to go to 4 years of undergraduate school. Then another 4 years of medical school. Then it’s usually a year as an intern. They 3-5 years training in a residency program before you are a full fledged surgeon. So that’s about 11-13 years, give for take depending on if you graduate early/late, etc. Good luck!

It takes 9-10 years if you’re living in the United States. You have to go to 4 years of medical school than 4-5 years of ophthalmologists residency training.
