Conventional ’small incison’ catarct surgery is done throught a 2.8-3.2mm incison with excellent results. Cutting edge technology and new lens implants allow this procedure to be completed through a 1.8mm incison (40% smaller than conventional). The Crystalens 5-0 is an advance on the earlier AT 45 Crystalens. This implant has attracted considerable interest in the US and currently Centre for Sight is one of very few European sites (April 2008) implanting the device. The implant is the only Accommodative lens approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and uses the eye’s natural focusing muscles to accomplish vision at all distances.
